MIURA GOLF - WEDGES

Miura Golf of Japan makes the world's finest forged golf clubs, designed and manufactured by patriarch and club expert Katsuhiro Miura with the help of his sons Yoshitaka and Shinei, whom he trained. Miura makes its forged clubs -- irons, wedges and putters -- in the company's one factory and one forge, both in the city of Himeji, which was for centuries the seat of the ancient Japanese art of samurai sword making. While demand for those weapons has diminished, the generations of steelmaking skill and passion have not -- and these are the attributes that the Miura family brings to the creation of the world's best golf weapons.

Katsuhiro Miura, who began making golf clubs in 1957, hand-grinds clubs in his factory every day alongside Yoshitaka Miura, while Shinei Miura supervises the forging. Miura clubs are made one by one, using many handcrafting processes, and will never be mass produced. Special forging techniques assure that the grain of the steel in each club will be fine and uniform, with no voids or tiny bubbles that could interfere with the famous Miura purity of the strike. This grain, more comparable to a jar of sand than a jar of marbles, is the result of careful and patient forging and finishing, and it sets Miura apart from other clubs.

Miura offers non-forged products as well -- drivers, fairway woods and hybrids -- all designed and produced under the supervision of the Miura family. Among professional golfers, the Miura name is well-known -- indeed, before he made clubs under his own name, Katsuhiro Miura supplied many top pros with the clubs they used to win major championships. Out of deference to those players and their current endorsement relationships, Katsuhiro Miura does not discuss them specifically. Instead, he focuses on the design and manufacture of his current clubs, which are to him the highest expression of his decades-long quest for golf club perfection.

BLACK WEDGE SERIES

Material : Mild steel
Process: Precision forging Finish
Finish: W nickel (satin) chrome / Black Finish
Loft: 50, 52, 54, 56, 58, 60

Feel, feedback and workability of a forged wedge.

Miura's forging techniques rearrange the molecular structure of the mild steel in a pattern that is uniform throughout the hitting area of the club in a manner that is unique to his clubs. This tightness in the grain structure of the metal is what gives Miura made clubs the controlled, soft feel that other manufacturers cannot achieve.

Miura also uses a proprietary “spin welding” process to produce the industry's most consistent hosel. This unique procedure ensures that the bore depths and hosel heights are identical on every Miura made head and the shaft of every club will be perfectly centered.

C-GRIND WEDGE (RIGHT HAND ONLY)

Material : Mild steel
Process: Precision forging Finish
Finish: W nickel (satin) chrome
Loft: 55, 57, 59

The Miura family's (Katsuhiro and his sons Yoshitaka and Shinei) research for the Series 1957 C Grind wedge, like the Y Grind, included trips to North America and Europe to study a variety of playing conditions and turf structures. They understood that golfers were looking for a sand wedge with even more aggressive heel and toe relief to compliment their other Miura wedges. The challenge for the Miura family was to create a wedge which would not compromise the basic fundamentals of a high performance golf club. The result is a wedge which balances the heel and toe relief golfers wanted, leading and trailing edge versatility golfers need, with playability in a broad range of conditions.

Y-GRIND WEDGE (RIGHT HAND ONLY)

Material : Mild steel
Process: Precision forging Finish
Finish: W nickel (satin) chrome
Loft: 49, 51, 53, 60

The special grind on this wedge was done by Yoshitaka Miura, himself a master craftsman after more than 20 years of training under his father, Katsuhiro Miura at the family forging facility in Himeji, Japan. The ‘Y’ on the sole not only represents Yoshitaka’s mark on the club, but also signifies the special and limited production of this club.

K-GRIND WEDGE (RIGHT HAND ONLY)

Material : Mild steel
Process: Precision forging Finish
Finish: W nickel (satin) chrome
Loft: 52, 56, 60

The international golfing press has always used the words “from the hands of god” to describe Katsuhiro Miura’s forged irons. Could it be that the inspiration for his newest wedge came from his own hands? The sole of the new k wedge is “fluted” which bears a striking resemblance to finger-tip impressions, or even human knuckles. These three channels reduce the resistance against the wedge in sand, thick rough, and even the fairway. The sole of the wedge moves with the grass instead of against it. The channels move around the sand instead of colliding with it. It allows the wedge to accelerate thru the ball with less effort in every condition to improve the odds of hitting a good shot.

· Better results out of wet sand.
· Reduces the odds of “catching it heavy” on long bunker shots.
· Better acceleration on ½ and ¼ swings around the green.
· Digs it out of deep rough.
· Works great in normal conditions with the same feel and performance for which Miura wedges are known
